Beaverton Black People’s Union (BBPU) is a culturally specific, Black-led organization rooted in community, advocacy, and empowerment. What began as a group of committed parents advocating for Black students in the Beaverton School District has grown into a thriving network of over 500 members. BBPU centers Black voices and experiences through culturally grounded programs, educational offerings, and leadership development opportunities. Our work is guided by three core pillars: Community Building, through events like Kwanzaa celebrations, Black 2 School BBQs, and Soul Strolls that affirm Black culture and foster connection; Youth Support and Empowerment, with fellowships, scholarships, and healing spaces for young people to grow and lead; and Organizing for Community Change, with ongoing advocacy, training, and leadership development to challenge systemic inequities and elevate Black leadership in local decision-making.
