BottleDrop Account Terms and Conditions
Find the Terms and Conditions for BottleDrop accounts below.
Effective Jan. 1, 2023
We updated our Terms and Conditions, effective Jan. 1, 2023
The updated Terms and Conditions are below. Important changes include a requirement that customers use their own account cards to open drop doors (helping secure the chain-of-custody for bags), the addition of clear language prohibiting hazardous materials from being placed in BottleDrop Bags, clarification about BottleDrop’s customer service process, and a change to our processing fee calculation.
Terms and Conditions
The BottleDrop account is an optional service intended to provide extra convenience for individuals, families, and household consumers. The following terms and conditions apply to all BottleDrop accounts and are agreed to by customers upon account sign up. BottleDrop is not responsible for miscounts or delayed counts when customers violate the terms and conditions. Violations of these terms and conditions could result in closure of your account with or without notice.
- A valid SMS capable phone number is required to create a BottleDrop account online or at a BottleDrop Kiosk. Customers without an SMS capable phone may contact BottleDrop Customer Service and provide a valid email address and valid identification with a mailing address to qualify for a BottleDrop account.
- A maximum of two (2) BottleDrop accounts are allowed per household and per phone number.
- All BottleDrop Bags which are dropped off at BottleDrop Redemption Centers and BottleDrop Express locations are subject to a limit of 15 bags per account per quarter year (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec).
- BottleDrop Bags dropped at Partner Retailer drop locations (defined as Dealer Redemption Centers per ORS 459A.700), will not count toward an account’s limit, however, due to the capacity of the container, no more than 15 bags may be dropped off in one day.
- At BottleDrop Redemption Centers and BottleDrop Express locations, no more than 15 total Green Bags may be dropped off at a given time.
- Only BottleDrop Bags are accepted for counting by BottleDrop. BottleDrop may refuse to count containers dropped in any bag other than a BottleDrop Bag.
- A box of 10 BottleDrop Bags costs $2.00 and can be purchased at a BottleDrop Redemption Center or a participating retailer. The cost of bags may be deducted from your account.
- BottleDrop accounts will be charged a processing fee for each BottleDrop Bag that is dropped off at a BottleDrop Redemption Center or BottleDrop Express location. The processing fee is equal to eight percent of the refund value of containers in each bag. If the processing fee calculation results in a fractional cent, the processing fee will be rounded down in the customer’s favor to the nearest full cent. For BottleDrop Bags dropped at Partner Retailer drop locations (defined as Dealer Redemption Centers per ORS 459A.700), the processing fee will be paid by the store.
- Containers in a BottleDrop Bag must have an Oregon refund value as defined by ORS 459A.705. Knowingly returning containers that do not have an Oregon refund value may result in a $250 fine pursuant to ORS 459.992.
- BottleDrop Bags may include a mix of plastic, metal, and glass containers in the same bag.
- If including glass, bags should have no more than 30 glass bottles and should weigh less than 20 lb.
- BottleDrop Bags may include BottleDrop Refillable glass bottles.
- BottleDrop Bags containing any dangerous materials and/or biohazards such as dirty diapers, syringes, spit/chew, or other biological substances will result in immediate account termination.
- BottleDrop is committed to using best commercial efforts to accurately (within an average margin of error of +/- 2 containers per bag) count containers. Customers may contact BottleDrop customer service with questions about bag counts.
- BottleDrop is not responsible for any issues with a bag if it is dropped off by anyone other than the account holder themselves, including third-party services.
- BottleDrop is not responsible for inaccurate bag counts if bags are improperly filled or handled. This includes, but is not limited to, bags that:
- Contain trash or non-redeemable containers;
- Contain crushed or broken containers, or containers with excessive residual liquid;
- Contain unrinsed or sticky containers that do not freely fall out of an open bag;
- Contain more than 30 glass bottles and/or weigh over 20 lb;
- Are ripped or cut, untied, or not fully closed.
- To help ensure the chain-of-custody of BottleDrop Bags, BottleDrop is not responsible for any issues with a bag(s) if the account holder does not scan the BottleDrop card associated with their account when dropping said bag(s).
- Customers must affix one bag tag on each BottleDrop Bag prior to dropping it off.
- If a bag tag associated with a Blue Bag or Give account is used to open a drop door, only Blue Bags are permitted to be dropped following that door opening.
- There is a maximum withdrawal limit of $99.90 per account per day. Because cash machines at BottleDrop Redemption Centers do not include pennies, withdrawals made at BottleDrop Redemption Centers must be made in amounts ending in five (5) cent or ten (10) cent increments.
- BottleDrop Plus vouchers may not be eligible on all store items. Exclusions are to be determined by the individual retailer.
- BottleDrop Bags will be processed and credited to your account within seven (7) days. If your account has not been credited after 7 days, please contact customer service.
- By participating in the BottleDrop Bag program, customer agrees that contacting customer service to seek a credit is the sole remedy for concerns related to miscounts, missing bags, or bags not processed within the seven-day processing period. Customer service may issue a credit based on recent activity in your account.
- The BottleDrop Customer Code of Conduct is applicable to BottleDrop account holders.
Containers for Change Program
Customers who wish to participate in OBRC’s Containers for Change Program may simply leave their bag tag sticker off the bag. OBRC uses 100% of the funds from containers in those bags to support nonprofit and advocacy organizations, as well as foundations, through the Containers for Change program. For more details about the Containers for Change program, visit our Containers for Change page. OBRC also reserves the right to use funds from the Containers for Change account to support the OBRC Emergency Fund, which quickly responds to pressing needs and priorities in the community through local nonprofits.
Inadvertent Participation in Containers for Change Program
BottleDrop relies on customers’ unique bag tag stickers to credit customers’ accounts with funds from containers in their Green Bags. Customers who inadvertently drop a bag without a sticker, and do not wish for the funds from their containers to be directed to the Containers for Change program, can call customer service to inquire about credit for their bag.
Third-Party Companies and Services
- Any individual delivering a bag for a third-party company or service must sign up with BottleDrop for a Driver Account and use that account for their deliveries. Personal use of a Driver Account is prohibited.
- Use of a personal account to drop bags for a third-party where compensation for the drop is exchanged is prohibited. You must sign up for a Driver Account.
- BottleDrop is not responsible for any issues with a bag if it is dropped off by anyone other than the account holder themselves, including third-party services.
- Green Bags dropped by third-party commercial drivers must be dropped at a BottleDrop Redemption Center, unless otherwise approved by BottleDrop. Third-party commercial drivers may not drop bags at Bottle Drop Express and Dealer Redemption Center locations.
- OBRC may utilize Hyperwallet payment services to deliver payments to you. Such payment services are subject to the Hyperwallet Terms of Service and the Hyperwallet Privacy Policy.
