Bag Drop Locations
-
Redemption Centers
Staffed, stand-alone locations where you can do all things BottleDrop. Green and Blue Bags can be returned through exterior drop doors from 6am-10pm. Exceptions apply.
When centers are open (8am-6pm), you can purchase Green Bags, pick up Blue Bags, use self-serve return machines, have staff hand count up to 50 containers, use a kiosk to withdraw funds as (1) cash redeemable at the printed location or (2) store credit redeemable at nearby Plus retailer, get a new/replacement account card, and print bag tag stickers.
-
Express Sites
Located at select retailers throughout Oregon, these have a drop door for retuning Green and Blue Bags, and anyone can use each site’s self-serve return machines.
Account holders can also purchase Green Bags and use our kiosk to get a new/replacement account card, withdraw funds as cash or store credit (participating BottleDrop Plus retailers only), and print bag tag stickers.
-
Partner Retailers
Stores that have partnered with us, aka Dealer Redemption Centers, and have drop doors. Bags dropped here do not count toward the 15-bag per quarter limit, and the retailer (not you, the account holder) pays the bag processing fee. All other terms and conditions apply.
Account holders can also purchase Green Bags and use our kiosk to get a new/replacement account card, withdraw funds as cash or store credit (participating BottleDrop Plus retailers only), and print bag tag stickers.
How to Use Self-Serve Machines
-
Step 1 - Insert Containers
When you’re standing at the self-serve machine, you’ll put containers in one by one. Our machines will scan the barcode to confirm the container is accepted. There is a screen on the front of the machine which will display the total value of your redemption as you add your containers.
-
Step 2 - Print Voucher
Once you’re out of containers, press the button to receive your voucher. If you reach the location’s per person per day maximum, the voucher will automatically dispense for you.
-
Step 3 - Get Cash
Take your cash voucher(s) to the pay station, scan it (them), and your cash will dispense. There aren’t fees, and you don’t need an account.
Featured Frequently Asked Questions
You can drop off up to 15 bags per account, per quarter year at BottleDrop locations. Bags dropped at a location specifically indicated as a Partner Retailer will not count toward this quarterly limit, however, due to the capacity of the container, no more than 15 bags per account may be dropped off in one day at Partner Retailer locations.
Each quarter year starts and ends as follows:
- The first quarter starts January 1 and ends March 31.
- The second quarter starts April 1 and ends June 30.
- The third quarter starts July 1 and ends September 30.
- The fourth quarter starts October 1 and ends December 31.
When you reach your limit, you will receive an SMS or email notification if you have accurate contact information on your account and your card will no longer open the drop doors until the next quarter.
You will still be able to withdraw your account balance, use Plus, and purchase Green Bags. You may also continue to redeem containers using our self-service machines at any BottleDrop.
You can purchase Green Bags and print bag tag stickers at the same places where you can drop off your bags. Please see our Location Finder to find BottleDrop locations near you.
Green Bags are often processed and credited to your account within a few days but may take longer during busy seasons. Please allow up to 7 days for your bags to process. Even if you drop off multiple bags at the same time and place, they may be counted and credited on different days. If after 7 days you have questions about the status of your bag, you can reach out to BottleDrop’s customer service.
Signing up for an account is free. A roll of 10 Green Bags costs $2.00, and there is a processing fee equal to eight percent of the refund value of containers in each bag returned. Bag tag stickers are required for each bag and are free to print from any BottleDrop kiosk. All bag purchases made at BottleDrop Redemption Centers and all processing fees are debited from the account, so no payment is required to get started.
For bags dropped at Partner Retailer locations, the eight percent processing fee is paid by the store and not charged to the BottleDrop account holder.
You are able to keep plastic caps on plastic bottles when recycling them at BottleDrop. Other lids of different material types (for example, a plastic lid or cap on a metal bottle) should be removed.
Note that your local curbside recycling may have different rules about lids and caps.
You can return up to 350 containers per person per day using a self-serve return machine at a BottleDrop Redemption Center. BottleDrop staff will hand-count up to 50 containers per person per day at a Redemption Center. If you are utilizing a BottleDrop account, you may redeem up to 15 Green Bags per annual quarter. Green Bag and self-service limits are separate and can be used in combination.
You can use your BottleDrop card to check your balance at any BottleDrop Redemption Center or BottleDrop retailer kiosk. Additionally, you can get your balance by signing in to your online account, logging in to the BottleDrop app, or calling our automated balance line (503) 542-5252 and selecting option 2.
All BottleDrop locations are open 7 days a week. Specific hours and available services may vary. Partner retailer drop locations can also be found on our Location Finder. Drop door hours may vary by location.

To withdraw funds from your account, you will need to utilize one of our kiosks at a Redemption Center or a retailer. Once you have located a kiosk near you, you will select the option that reads “Access my BottleDrop Account.”
Next you will be prompted to scan the barcode on the back of your card at the scanner below the screen, and then you’ll need to enter the 4-digit PIN to your account. This will sign you into the kiosk where you will see your balance.
By selecting the “Withdraw” button on the kiosk, you’ll be asked for the amount of your balance you would like to withdraw. After your selection, a voucher will be printed for you, which you’ll take to a either a pay station machine if you’re at a Redemption Center or the customer service counter if you’re at a retailer.
Crushed or flattened containers will not go through BottleDrop self-serve return machines and may not be put in Green or Blue Bags. However, you can bring crushed containers to the Customer Service desk to have a staff member count them by hand up to 50 containers per person per day.
BottleDrop Give
BottleDrop Give is the can drive that never ends for Oregon nonprofits. Registered 501(c)(3)s can sign up and distribute Blue Bags to supporters. Then, supporters fill Blue Bags with their empty deposit containers and drop them off at any bag drop location. We’ll take things from there, count them, and credit your account.
