We lost our beloved daughter Beth in a bicycle accident while she was serving in the Peace Corps in the remote rural village of Lumwana West in NW Zambia. Girls were being married at age 12, having 8-10 children, and receiving little or no education. Since then (2002), The Elizabeth Bowers Zambia Education Fund (EBZEF) has sent over 300 girls to secondary school with over 30 now in or graduated from college/vocational school. We have created a paradigm shift in the community's attitude toward the education of women. EBZEF gives scholarships to girls, has built and stocked a large community library, has initiated a pre-school in the village, and is currently helping to build a secondary school in the community. EBZEF empowers women, children, and their community in Lumwana West to break the cycle of poverty through education. Visit our website at .
