At The Next Door, Inc. (TNDI) we envision a supportive community where all children and families are safe, healthy, and valued. TNDI was founded in 1971 to address the unmet need of support services for “troubled” youth. Today, TNDI has over 100 employees that facilitate 40 programs that constantly strive to fulfill our mission of Opening doors to new possibilities by strengthening children and families and improving communities. Annually, we serve over 3,500 people in 7 counties, 5 in Oregon (Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam, and Wheeler) and 2 in Washington (Klickitat and Skamania). Program areas include Treatment Services, Youth Services, Family Services, Health Promotion Services, Economic Development Services, and Equity and Outreach Training Services. Our staff is known and respected by the communities we serve. Because of our long standing work in the community, we are uniquely positioned to be an access center for information and resources. The Next Door approaches its work by addressing the community as a whole; asking, listening, and responding in order to build capacity, plan, and implement initiatives alongside the community. Following this approach, the majority of TNDI’s current programs has been created in response to expressed needs from community members and partners. Much of TNDI’s work focuses on underserved or “at-risk” populations including the Latino/a/x community, foster care youth, low-income families, and those with other barriers to accessing resources and support.
