Meet Willy the Willamette River Dragon! The newest resident in the Cathedral Park neighborhood, joining us on May 7th, 2026. The legend of a mysterious river monster living in the Willamette goes back centuries, but we're pretty sure it moved in under the St Johns Bridge after it was built in 1931. To celebrate this amazing beast, and help spread the legend, we commissioned local artist Ivan McLean to create and install this sculpture, funded by the Metro Community Enhancement Grant. Is it a dragon? Is it a monster? Is a square a rectangle? These are the debates the community needs to be having. But to keep the sculpture lit, maintained, and insured, we will have to fundraise. That's what this donation drive is for! This is our first year. Who are we? We're the River Dragon Club! A group of neighbors in the Cathedral Park Neighborhood who work together to maintain the intersection at N Willamette and N Burlington. We formed this 501(c)(3) specifically to maintain the River Dragon sculpture. All funds raised go to covering the maintenance costs for the sculpture.
