Founded in 1939, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in 1956, serving the residents of Douglas County and beyond. We encourage the study of earth sciences such as geology, mineralogy, lapidary arts, and the collection and classification of minerals, gems, and fossils. The Umpqua Gem & Mineral Club donates new gem, mineral, and geology books to public schools in Douglas County, Oregon. Each school receives age-appropriate, new books on a four-year rotating schedule. The club sponsors an annual show the first full weekend in May at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The show features displays of outstanding work in lapidary, faceting, wire wrapping, silversmithing, etc. We are working to get our club into a building of our own. This building will allow all club equipment and physical property to be consolidated under one roof. Future home of our workshop, museum, meeting place, and community hub. The Umpqua Gem & Mineral Club is expanding its philanthropic mission, with the creation of a UCC Scholarship Fund. We are establishing a Scholarship Fund for high school students who will be attending Umpqua Community College and want to pursue studies of the Earth Sciences - Geology, Paleontology, Volcanology, etc.
